Switzerland, Swiss speed climber Karl Egloff has abandoned his latest attempt to climb Mount Everest and return within 36 hours without supplemental oxygen.

Egloff, who has been acclimatizing in the Himalayas since  April, began the challenge on Wednesday morining local time. However the expedition was called off later the same day after his climbing partner, Nicolas Miranda, Experienced health problems.

The pair returned to base camp after covering 24.23 kilometers in 20 hours and 45 minutes. “Health is more important. Of course I’m sad, but that’s part of the sport,” Egloff said in a statement. The 45-year-old climber, who lives near Zurich and holds speed climbing records on several of the Seven Summits.
