The death toll from a devastating flash flood in Nepal has risen to 31, according to official figures from the Bagmati Province Police Office in Hetauda.
Police said 93 people have been injured in the disaster, which struck the Rasuwa district and surrounding areas in the mountainous north of the country.
The flash flood has severely disrupted communications, making rescue and relief operations difficult. Earlier reports said dozens of people were still missing as emergency teams worked to reach affected communities.
Authorities also reported that 384 tourists are missing, including more than 290 foreign nationals from countries such as Germany, the United States and Spain, according to Nepal Tourism Board official Santosh Panta.
The disaster has also affected areas near Nepal’s border with China. Chinese state media reported that a landslide originating on the Nepali side of the border caused a high number of deaths and missing people at the Gyirong border crossing in Tibet’s Shigatse region.
Switzerland’s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) said it currently has no information about Swiss casualties. Officials are checking the situation, while the Swiss representation in Kathmandu remains in contact with local authorities.
The situation remains fluid, with casualty and missing-person figures expected to change as rescue teams gain access to affected areas.
